Current lake water temp
Current weather conditions on the lake
Heading out to Blue Ridge tomorrow to catch some walleye and trout. The weather is good and the fishing should be also. I’ll report back once the day is done…..can’t wait.
See you on the water, “Walleye”
Well it was a beautiful sunrise and lovely morning on the water. Rarely do I ever fish this lake w/o success, however, this day was one of those days. My partner had a nice walleye up to the boat and lost it. My other buddy in another boat caught a wall hanger and a couple of smaller walleye. Overall, slow day fishing.
One observation from the day. The common courtesy of so many boaters on Blue Ridge is slipping rapidly. Every year I have more close encounters with boats cutting us off while we are fishing. Saturday, I had 6 rods and reels out trolling with only about 25 yards between my boat and shore; two pontoons cut me off. I yelled at both and had brief conversation with one. Come on folks, watch where you are going out there and show some courtesy and common sense. It’s a big lake with plenty of room.
See you out there and have a great week.
I’m heading up to lake blue ridge this weekend for the first time. How is the bream, crappie, and largemouth bass fishing there?
Never caught too many Largemouth at Blue Ridge, however the smallmouth fishing can be great. Bream and Crappie can also be excellent using live bait fishing in close on structure. Go early though because you will have plenty of boating traffic as it warms up. Hope you catch a boat load!
I may go tomorrow as well, however I am still considering Lake Rabun or Lake Seed.
Ive been fishing in this lake for over 5 years and the only fish that seems to be in this lake is White bass. I know many don’t like to give away their fishing secrets but i was wondering what should i use? Ive only caught stuff on a 1/6 Rooster Tail. Ive tried flukes and buzzbait no hits. Any secrets i can get to help me improve my catch record?
Ended up at Lake Burton today; my 18 yr. old son wanted to go there so we took a chance. I caught a good largemouth right off the bat on a Lucky Craft pointer; a good while later I caught a small largemouth and later some bluegill. All in all, nothing to brag about, but we had a good time. Lots of boats out by 10 a.m., so we finished up by 12:15 and headed back home. Oh, I caught the other largemouth and the bluegill on a bomber 300 series crankbait…
Saw lots of trolling going on today, but no fish being brought in.
How as fishing on Blue Ridge today?
Wally
There are a lot of Whitebass in Blue Ridge. I catch them all of the time when I’m walleye fishin and smallmouth fishin. Can’t help it. As far as your success rate, I have good luck with crawfish type cranks, Yum crawbugs, Lucky Craft Pointers, and a whole host of other soft plastics.
Blue Ridge has it’s own personality just like any other lake or river. You can’t be in a hurry and you have to get to know the ole girl for a while. Use your electronics to locate structure, humps, and fish the docks. Go early and stay late if you can. Over a long period of time, you’ll beging to see the patterns a little better. Just remember, smallies love rocks!
See you out there….Wally
what about camping?,is the campground open?whats the rates up there,i heard good fishing but i live near atlanta and want to spend a week somewhere but i dont wanna stay in a hotel, thank you

lets go fishing
We are spending family vacation at Lake Blue Ridge in late June. We are from Florida but Blue Ridge is old family home. We go up every summer ( twenty to thirty years). Last two years we brought 18 foot boat. Like to fish. Never catch anything. We are used to salt water. We obviously don’t know what we are doing when we fish up there. Are there any guides who would go on our boat? Year before last lake was beautiful. Water all the way up to tree line. Last year level very low as I’m sure you know. Can anyone tell me how it looks for this year water level wise?

Carters: stripers are on fire.over 100 in the boat this month.

Caught a nice smallmouth after the sun went down using a yellow plastic worm. I was sitting on my dock at the edge of a peninsula…
just thought i would let you know that the local Bass Tournaments on lake blue ridge people are bringing in alot of 3-4.5 pound small mouth . night fishing is still a little slow but the mornings are great . just take a top water lure and watch for breaking fish . this only works in the mornings but if you are lucky it is fun . you can flat line some live bait about 30 yards off the mane lake points and get some action also …just remember fishing gets better when the water gets cooler .
ps . did u get your boat fixed eric.
I am thinking about coming up next week to try to catch some walleye. I used to catch them when I lived in Tennessee (Center Hill Lake) I would like to know what boat ramp would be the best to launch from and which area would be the best to begin. any other info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Randy

WOW what a day on BR lake, spawning herring, active fish and low traffic.
Hit the lake around 8am and headed for the dam.Found a huge school of blue backs spawning on the shore line. One cast net toss later and i had about 250 fresh baits in the 60 gallon masterflow tank.Started crusing the rocks along the dam wall and found fish in the first 25 feet.SMALLMOUTH and big ones!Pinned on a 5 inch blueback to the 3/0 Gamakatsu finesse wide gap hook and tossed the bait via the 7 foot spinning rod and 8 lb test twords the dam.Wham insto hookup on a wild 4 lb. smallie this fish was on fire jumping and ripping drag.Boated ,weighed, and released him healthy.Continued down the wall of rocks and repeated this over and over again. We boated what seemed like every fish in the lake.Smallie after smallie all of them 2-5 lbs. After working the wall all the way down we had landed 15 smallmounth and lost anther 6 or 7 fish either at or close to the boat. One of the fish lost at the boat went 6 + lbs for sure.
After the clinic we just put on for shoreline smallmouth i was ready for some walleye action. It was about 10am by now and i wanted to go back and check on some fish i marked on the new HDS sonar.Pulled up the GPS and went back over a small drop off from 25 feet to 36 feet where i had seen some long skinny yellow lines on the sonar.Dropped 2 down lines with Fresh baits down, one to the lakebad and one 5 feet up.I think i moved about 5 feet and “FISH ON!”the first walleye of the day was in the boat.A nice 3.5 lb fish.unlike the bass these fish went in the ice box.Continued to work the drop off and the area around this drop and put 4 more eyes in the boat all oner 3 lbs.
At noon we headed to the marina for fresh drinks and a bite to eat.Decided to go find some cooler water and up the lake i went to star creek.Follwed it back watching the sonar returns and the bottom jumped from 28 to 14 feet and there was bait all over the screen. So again down went the bluebacks.I dropped 2 down lines a flat line and a flatline with a spiltshot 6 feet up from the hook.I also put out 2 planer boards with weighted bluebacks on them and lined the boat up for the first pass over the ledge. it wasnt long and we had fish on again. This time white bass, lots and lots of white bass. All these fish went 2-4 lbs and what a fight on light line. After about 3 hours of cruising the river and boating fish after fish “we lost count at 20″ we headed for the ramp at the marina, but we didnt take the bait out of the water we just cruised back along the shore line and we were still catching fish.We boated 3 more walleye and a ton of whites.Headed across the lake to the ramp and loaded the boat after a great day on the lake.
All and all this was a perfect day on the lake and it should stay like this for a week or so.
Lake and Stream guide service has a few more days open this week if you yould like to book a trip you can give us a call at 706-669-4973.
We are still catching great small mouth and walleye numbers on a dailey basis.Walleye up to 5 lbs and smallies from 2 -5 lbs. This fish are scattered all over the lake and we are runnin and gunnin the points to catch them.
you can reach lake and stream at 706-669-4973 anytime.
We are not from the area but are coming up June 15-17th. Is is possible to fish from the banks of the river or boats only? Thanks in advance for your help.
I’m going to BR for the first time this weekend to visit a friend’s lakehouse up there and would like to do some fishing. All they have is a kayak, so I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on how to go about catching some fish…probalby just throwing towards the bank as my mobility is limited. Any suggestions? Too hot for shallow bass?
Thanks!
The lake is HOT 85-88 deg. by mid day and is making for tuff fishing.Fish are being caught up river and on the points leading up to the river .The walleyes have all gone to their summer homes down deep and can be caught with jigging spoons or live bait fished real slow on the bottom.Dont sit still for to long or waist to much time in one spot ,if the fish are there they will eat fast and then move to the next spot!
Whit bass are schooled up in morganton point area and can be caught in good numbers on just about anything. When we are targeting them 40-70 fish a day is not uncommon.
small and large mouth bass are spread out on points and flats in depth from 6 to 40 feet.fishing is good in the early morning and latye day near dark.
Morning top water is where to be for blue ridge smallies. The top water bite is hot, around the marina and the area around the dam is the best place to be at sunrise.Spoons, popr’s ,and white/pearl flukes are getting bit with good results.
Large schools of small mouth bass are busting for about an hour and a half each day just off the marina boat ramps and between the marina and the island just off the boat docks in 20-60 feet of water.
Tuesday we boated 25 fish in a few hours on live and artificials.Saturday was a bit slow but the fog made for even tougher fishing.Wait out the fog and the fish will show up for sure.
when the top water bite slows down try tossing white or pearl and white flukes with almost a dead twitching action. slow and slower was getting hit with good results.
Tuesday the biggest fish went 5 lbs 5 oz. and Sat we managed a 4.5 lb largemouth.
Smallies are 20 40 feet deep off almost every point on the main lake.
White bass are schooled up in the morganton point coves.
Largemouh bass bite is best at dawn and dusk fish are shallow in the grass beds.
Fishing has been good at times and hard at times,But stick with it and you will catch fish!
3 in. and 5 in. flukes in any color are gettin bit!

You do know it’s illegal to “Possess or use live BlueBack Herring for bait” in Blue Ridge Lake, Right?
iF YOU WANT A GOOD VIEW OF THE LAKE WITH WATER IN IT YOU BETTER GO LOOK AT IT SOON CAUSE IT IS DROPPING FAST!!!
Not if they are caught there , Any non game fish that is caught in a body of water can be used as bait in that body of water. There are thousands and thousands of Blue Backs in that lake.I figure the more that are used for bait the less there will be in the lake.I know that i removed several thousand this spring from Blue Ridge myself. If some one tells you they are not in there they have no idea what they are talking about.
DNR will confirm this if you call them and get some info. 706/624-1161 ask for Jon.
What they dont want is people bring them from lanier or nottley to fish with. The herring are a good and bad thing. The good is they are like 75 % protien and with out them the chances of having 6 lb+ smallies and 8 lb + walleye would never be there. We would have a lake full of 3 lb fish with a 4 lber being a monster. The growth rate would be so much slower then it is now ,and the white bass aare thriving off them.
bad thing are well they are prob. eating some eggs or fry game fish ,but i dont think the numbers are that bad. Being that the population of bluebacks is still small.
there is also a huge shad population in blueridge i have seen both gizzards and threadfin shad in this lake.
I have seen a increase in numbers and size of all species on this lake in the last 3 years. If you ask me the blue backs are going to be the least of lake blue ridges problems in the next few years.Warm water less current less oxygen less cover and muddy water will play a big role in the time when they are working on the dam.
