DNR will confirm this if you call them and get some info. 706/624-1161 ask for Jon.

What they dont want is people bring them from lanier or nottley to fish with. The herring are a good and bad thing. The good is they are like 75 % protien and with out them the chances of having 6 lb+ smallies and 8 lb + walleye would never be there. We would have a lake full of 3 lb fish with a 4 lber being a monster. The growth rate would be so much slower then it is now ,and the white bass aare thriving off them.

bad thing are well they are prob. eating some eggs or fry game fish ,but i dont think the numbers are that bad. Being that the population of bluebacks is still small.

there is also a huge shad population in blueridge i have seen both gizzards and threadfin shad in this lake.

I have seen a increase in numbers and size of all species on this lake in the last 3 years. If you ask me the blue backs are going to be the least of lake blue ridges problems in the next few years.Warm water less current less oxygen less cover and muddy water will play a big role in the time when they are working on the dam.

Not if they are caught there , Any non game fish that is caught in a body of water can be used as bait in that body of water. There are thousands and thousands of Blue Backs in that lake.I figure the more that are used for bait the less there will be in the lake.I know that i removed several thousand this spring from Blue Ridge myself. If some one tells you they are not in there they have no idea what they are talking about.

Smallies are 20 40 feet deep off almost every point on the main lake.
White bass are schooled up in the morganton point coves.
Largemouh bass bite is best at dawn and dusk fish are shallow in the grass beds.

Fishing has been good at times and hard at times,But stick with it and you will catch fish!

3 in. and 5 in. flukes in any color are gettin bit!
