Was that it?

I can hardly keep up with the drop in this little cove. I’m usually into the no-worries-about-the-dock mode around this time of year so it seems to be dropping faster than post-Labor Day. The lake has now dipped below TVA’s Balancing Guide:

The operating objective is to keep the elevation of all reservoirs similar relative to their positions between their flood guide and their balancing guide.

The flood guide is the blue line and the balancing guide is the green line; the red line is this year and the black line is last year:
TVA Dam Operating Guide

I’m no expert nor old-timer but looking at that graph with an eye on no significant new rain (like a hurricane), it’s quite possible that that was the full tank for this summer. I think it’s safe to say last year’s close-to 1690′ won’t be reached.

Sir, I really appreciate your dedication to the lake! Our cove is already a shallow one and we are looking like after labor day levels. I am a regular visitor to your sight and would like to thank you for it! Whenever I am having a rough day at the office, it is always a pleasure to be able to make a couple of clicks and be able to sit there and look out on the lake!

Thanks for taking the time to comment Todd. I was cruising around the other day and was really amazed at how many docks are already totally dry, while other adjacent docks are not.

Apparently not necessarily dry due to the overall pool but because of the unexpected, dramatic drop post Memorial Day (when a big rise is typically expected, thus everyone cranks their docks in before heading for home; I’m here full-time and I would have been landlocked if my dock weren’t so small & light).

We might need a shallow-cove help group after the 4th for the larger clans with annual reunion plans. Yahtzee anyone?

Likewise. Many thanks for your insight to our favorite place!
