Lake Levels
Time to start keeping an eye on those docks; the lake is officially on its way back up. After a low of 1667 feet on 1/11/2006, the TVA is letting the lake ease back up again for summer pool. Our dock is starting to wet its whistle, so hopefully we’ll be wakeboarding again before the end of April. I’d say it would be great to get some rain to help it along, but I’m about sick of the rain. ![]()

I love this website. Thank you! We just discovered Lake Blue Ridge last year when we bought a small vacation cabin nearby. It inspired us to buy our first boat and to take up wakeboarding (slowly learning)! We are keeping an eye on your website to know when to bring the boat out of storage. We are so looking forward to this season! Thanks again for the great website.
Cat, Found the (officially) web link, for the lake levels.
Hi! A few friends and I are renting a cabin on LAke Blue Ridge the week of May 6, and I am wondering if you could tell me whether the water would be warm enough to swim in. Do you know about what the water temperature will be at that time of year? Thanks!!
Some would say the water temperature is usually a bit chilly then, but I would say it will be nice. I was wading in the lake today to move the dock around, and the water temp is a bit chilly, but felt good enough to ski in on a warm day like today (81 degrees). My neighbor’s kids were tubing last weekend w/o wetsuits, so it’s getting to be that time again.
I would like to know how if the lake level is normal. I need to know before Saturday. Thanks
The lake is currently only 8 feet below a full summer pool. So I would say it’s better than “normal”. We were boating Tuesday and it was awesome. Usually there are a lot of large logs flaoting in with the rapid lake rise, but I didn’t see any. Have a nice w/e.
I plan to fish the lake for the first time on Wednesday 5/3. Which ramp would you suggest for me to use?
Take your pick. We’re only 5-feet below full-pool, so they’re all open. The marina is 5 bucks and all the rest are $3.
I went to the Morganton launch for the first time last week could not believe how dirty the area was and no one pays to use the area and there were cig butts everywhere the beach was gravel not sand oh I was sad
I am a lake homeowner on lake Hartwell GA and we are constantly dealing with lake level issues all of the time. I decided to help out a bit and put a website together called LakeLevelAlert.com at http://lakelevelalert.com . The site is new and I think will be beneficial to all of us trying to actually enjoy our lake experiences. I cover Lake Blue Ridge which is why I am posting here. Hope a few of you will check it out.
Is the lake water low for the fourth of july, and how crowded is the lake at the fourth of july?
Anybody know how low the lake can get before there are no usable ramps? My boat is in the Marina but I am not planning to leave it there all winter.
I have seen people using the Morganton Point boat ramp when the lake was down over 75′. You don’t actually use the paved ramp. There is an access cut on the lake side and you just keep driving down the lakeshore until you find water. It is gravel a long way but I’m not sure how far. You’ll have better luck if it hasn’t rained in a while - which hasn’t been a problem lately.
Your boat should be safe at the marina as long as you winterize it. The marina has plenty of room to keep everything floating down beyond 75′. You may have to take a shuttle boat to the docks though.
The marina and Lakewood are the only 2 boat ramps that are still doable. We’ve docked our 24 ft pontoon at the marina for 3 years and our boat always stayed afloat…what they do is shift the docks around to adjust to the water levels. You may have trouble getting to your dock but your boat will remain in water during the winter months.
See ya next year!
I took my boat out at Lakewood yesterday. There was a lot of activity there. I scouted out Morganton Point also. There was some activity there but it was mostly smaller boats and jet skis. The gravel drive still went all the way down to the lake.
I have a picture of the marina from ‘93 (one of the major 5 year draw downs). The docks were “islands” out towards the main part of the lake. You had to take a shuttle boat to get to them.
I am coming to Lake Blue Ridge next week for vacation. Are the boat docks still floating or are they completely beached. My plan was to do some fishing from the boat dock at the place we are renting. Can anybody shed some light on this?
Thanks.
It depends on where it is on the lake, cove, etc. Email me the address if you want and I’ll see if I can tell. Otherwise, you might Google Map it for a guess, or ask the leasing company if they know.
I volunteer on Blue Ridge Scenic Rail Way, every day folks are asking the lake level and if any damage done, are we likely to run dry? Could some one let me know all you can so I can tell the folks.
Thank you Wanda Bell
Hey Everyone,
I’m new to the forum, but I’m considering a trip down to Blue Ridge in late March or early April. I was wondering if there are any historical numbers on what the expected lake temperature would be at that time of year. I’d like to do a little swimming in the lake, but I’d probably like to wait until it was in the 60-65F range before getting in there.
Thanks,
-John
We are coming to stay at Lake Blue Ridge in August and would like to know how the lake level is, can anyone tell me . We will be staying at a house in one of the fingers. Thanks Cathy
